BMW Fire Recall: A Quick Overview
Below is a summary of the Toyota and BMW fire risk recall:
- NHTSA ID: 25V636000
- Population: 196,355
- Vehicle Models: Certain 2019–2021 BMW 330i, 2019–2022 BMW Z4, 2020–2022 BMW 530i, X3, X4, Toyota Supra, 2021–2022 BMW 430i, 430i Convertible, and 2022 BMW 230i vehicles.
- Vehicle Defect: Water can contact the engine starter’s electrical relay. The resulting corrosion could affect the relay’s electrical connection and ability to start the engine.
- Safety Risk: Corrosion in the starter’s relay could lead to a short-circuit and overheating of the starter, possibly causing a fire when the vehicle is being driven or when parked and turned off.
- Vehicle Remedy: Dealers will replace the faulty component with an engine starter that has a different design.
- Notification Dates: Owner recall notices will be sent on November 14, 2025. If the remedy is not ready by this time, these will serve as interim recall notices and follow-up notices will be mailed when parts are available.
Dealers will replace the engine starter for free once the remedy is available. If you have already paid for a replacement engine starter before the recall notification, you may be eligible for reimbursement. We recommend contacting BMW’s customer service for more information.
