Kia Issues to Watch For

Auto manufacturers will sometimes release faulty cars, trucks and other vehicles to the public. Kia is no exception. Because of this, owners of Kia vehicles should look out for the following signs:

  • Engine Failure
  • Excessive Oil Consumption
  • Transmission Failure
  • Lack of Acceleration
  • Engine Light Turns On
  • Complete Power Lost
  • Engine Stalls While Driving
  • Engine Catches Fire

If these symptoms or any other warranty problems keep coming back after repair attempts, your Kia may be a lemon. Learn more about lawsuits against Kia below to find out what the lemon law can do for you. If you want to seek legal remedies from your auto manufacturer, we suggest that you consult an attorney to discuss your lemon law rights.

Kia Lemon Law Litigation

Before your next trip to the Kia dealer, see whether a recall below covers your problem.

Kia recalled certain 2021 to 2023 Seltos and Soul models with the 2.0-liter engine because the piston oil rings may have been made incorrectly. Kia’s recall report says this can lead to higher oil use, engine damage and a loss of power, and in limited cases a fire. A class action over the same oil rings was still open in federal court as of August 2026, and the court had not certified a class.

NHTSA reviewed how Kia was handling this recall and closed that review in December 2025 without requiring further action from Kia. Kia told NHTSA that once the recall’s engine-monitoring software flags possible engine damage, dealers replace the engine at no cost to the owner, with no time or mileage limit.

Air bags have also been the subject of Kia recalls. Kia recalled certain 2021 to 2023 K5 sedans because the side curtain air bags may have been installed incorrectly and may not deploy properly in a crash. Dealers inspect them and reinstall them if needed, at no charge.

Kia and Hyundai are separate brands, and Hyundai Motor Company is Kia’s largest shareholder. Read our Hyundai page to learn more about problems reported on Hyundai vehicles.
