Top 2019 Nissan Sentra Lemon Problems

In 2019, more than 180,000 Nissan Sentra cars were sold in the United States. According to Nissan’s marketing brochures, the 2019 Nissan Sentra supposedly has “excellent fuel economy” and a transmission that “helps maximize efficiency and performance.” Despite Nissan’s marketing promises, the 2019 Nissan Sentra has experienced repeated electrical, brake and transmission issues that have led to individual lemon law cases and class action lawsuits.

Electrical Issues In Your 2019 Nissan Sentra

Some 2019 Nissan Sentra cars have experienced at least one of the following electrical problems:

  • Parasitic draw of battery
  • Radio turns on by itself
  • Car isn’t able to start
  • Display screens shut off at random
  • No backup camera image is displayed
  • Brake lights may not illuminate

According to one complaint submitted to NHTSA, “the vehicle’s battery rapidly drains while the vehicle is off, in a manner of hours or even a couple of days.”

A radio-related complaint states: “Since inception, the radio emits sudden noise or blast of music when the car is off, never started, etc. In addition, the SRS airbag light will not go off. I have a key FOB and tried all alternatives to reset this. I also reset the radio, but the radio goes on/off randomly when the car is off/parked.”

In some complaints, the electrical symptoms appear to be interconnected. For example:

“The radio turns off and on by itself without the car being on. I walked up to the car to hear it playing music. It happens randomly driving, not driving, and with no power to the car. I am worried about my battery draining. Also, the air conditioner display is blank from time to time. Only the orange lights on the buttons are lit up. Sometimes if I restart the car, it will come back on as if it is reset, other times it does not help. The display screen above the ac control panel freezes along with the display in between the speedometer from time to time. It seems as if the computer system does what it wants to and when it wants. I have not had the car for 6 months and it’s already giving me problems. It was purchased at the end of September 2019 from a Nissan dealership, brand new with 4 miles on it.” – NHTSA ID: 11308402

The 2019 Nissan Sentra has had two recalls related to its electrical issues:

  • No Backup Camera Image: If a driver adjusts the rear view camera settings and display settings so that the image is no longer visible, the system doesn’t reset those settings when the driver puts the car in reverse.
  • Brake Lights Don’t Illuminate: The brake light switch may become contaminated, which prevents the brake lights from lighting up when the driver hits the brake pedal. Other electrical issues caused by the contamination include the Malfunction Indicator Light flashing on and the engine failing to start.

2019 Nissan Sentra Brake Issues

The 2019 Nissan Sentra’s Automatic Emergency Braking System is supposed to prevent crashes by detecting cars, pedestrians, road objects and other obstacles in front of the car. If something in front of the car is detected, then the Nissan Sentra’s AEB system will warn the driver or hit the brakes to prevent a crash.

However, owners of 2019 Nissan Sentra cars report intermittent braking, detection of non-existent obstacles, jerking, acceleration issues and other common AEB system complaints.

Your Nissan Sentra may be a lemon if the AEB system has caused the following issues:

  • Dashboard says: “Front radar unavailable due to obstruction”
  • The AEB system suddenly deactivates
  • The vehicle slows down unexpectedly
  • The vehicle brakes unexpectedly and suddenly
  • Alerts for obstructions that aren’t there

Other brake-related issues in the 2019 Nissan Sentra include grinding noises while braking, the brake pedal becoming stiff, and the ABS malfunction indicator light illuminating.

2019 Nissan Sentra Transmission Issues

The continuously variable transmission issues in the Nissan Sentra have resulted in class action settlements for 2013-2019 Sentra cars with common Nissan CVT defects.

Nissan’s CVT transmission has caused the following problems in the 2019 Nissan Sentra:

  • Stalling and acceleration issues
  • Lurching or jerking
  • Shaking or shuddering
  • Transmission slipping
  • Overheating
  • Fluid leaks
  • Transmission failure

If you have not opted out of the class action lawsuits and/or settlements by specific deadlines, you may not be able to file a lemon law claim for transmission issues in your 2019 Nissan Sentra. However, not all Nissan Sentra cars are equipped with the CVT. If your Nissan Sentra has a manual transmission with recurring defects, request a free consultation from a lemon law attorney today.
