Ford Recalls 115K Super Duty Trucks With Steering Column Defect

Man who wearing smart watch is driving vehicle

Ford has announced a recall of more than 115,000 F-Series Super Duty trucks over the risk of detaching steering wheels.

The Ford steering column recall includes certain 2020–2021 Ford F-250, F-350 and F-450 pickup trucks. The repair itself is relatively simple: dealers will inspect the steering column and, if needed, repair or replace the upper shaft.

However, Ford drivers may not see the remedy available for another few months.

An Overview of Ford Steering Column Recall

Here are the preliminary details for Ford’s Super Duty steering column recall:

  • Ford Recall Number: 25S94
  • NHTSA ID: 25V626000
  • Affected Vehicles: 2020–2021 Ford F-250, Ford F-350 and Ford F-450 Super Duty trucks produced between February 19, 2019 and September 30, 2020.
  • Number of Vehicles Recalled: 115,539
  • Vehicle Defect: The steering column upper shaft may separate because the hard slider does not meet anti-pull apart load specifications.
  • Safety Issue: Drivers may experience a loss of steering control with little to no warning. There are no instrument cluster messages or other warnings to alert drivers.
  • Remedy: Dealers will inspect the steering column and repair or replace the upper shaft, if necessary.1

According to the safety recall report submitted to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Ford anticipated mailing interim recall notices between October 6 and October 10, 2025.2

The interim notices state the remedy is anticipated to be available in the first quarter of 2026.3

Ford plans to mail final remedy notice letters between December 26 and December 31, 2025.
