GM “Do Not Drive” Warning Issued in Wheel Lock-Up Recall

General Motors has issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for vehicles with faulty drivetrain transfer cases that can cause front and rear wheels to lock up with little to no warning.

The recall only affects an estimated 66 vehicles across several vehicle models and model years.

Owners of vehicles within the listed vehicle model and year range should confirm their inclusion in the recall by checking their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the relevant directories.

If your Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC vehicle is included in GM’s wheel lock-up recall, do not drive it until the recall remedy is completed.

GM “Do Not Drive” Warning Details

  • NHTSA ID: 26V289000
  • GM Recall: N262557620
  • Number of Vehicles: 66
  • Vehicle Problem: A missing component from the drivetrain transfer case may cause the front and/or rear wheels to lock up, increasing the risk of a collision. Specifically, oil pickup tubes were not installed in some transfer case assemblies due to errors occurring during changes to the supplier’s assembly line.
  • Recall Remedy: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly.
  • Warning Sign: Drivers may hear a grinding sound before wheels lock up. However, wheel lock-up events can often occur without warning.
  • Notification Schedule: Owners will receive a mailed notice June 22, 2026.

Affected Models

  • 2026 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL with four-wheel or all-wheel drive.
  • Certain 2015–2020 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Yukon XL with four-wheel drive.

What To Do If Your GM Vehicle Is Included In This Recall

If your Cadillac, Chevrolet or GMC vehicle is included in GM recall N262557620, do not drive it until the recall remedy is completed. Affected owners should confirm whether their vehicle is included in the recall and contact their nearest GM dealership to schedule a recall repair.

How to Schedule a Repair Service

Your mailed notification should provide information about scheduling a recall repair with your nearest local dealership. However, if you have not received a notice, or if you have outstanding vehicle issues that need to be resolved under warranty, you can locate your nearest dealership through the following directories:

When Repairs Do Not Resolve Your Problem

Recall repairs are performed by authorized dealers at no cost to the owner. However, if your wheel lock-up issues or drivetrain problems remain unresolved, they may point to a recurring defect beyond the recall repair. If your dealership or repair facility is unable to resolve your vehicle issues within a reasonable number of repair attempts, the California Lemon Law may allow you to take legal action against your auto manufacturer.
