Nissan is recalling more than 24,000 model year 2020–2021 Nissan Armada and Infiniti Qx80 SUVs because fuel pump failures will cause their V8 engines to stall.
A manufacturing error made the density of the impeller out-of-specification. When gasoline is inside the fuel pump, the swelling of the impeller will increase the friction between the impeller and the inlet cover. As a result, the impellers bind inside the fuel pump modules, causing the engines to stall.
In June 2020, Nissan learned about fuel pump failures occurring outside the United States.
Nissan investigated the issue by collecting pumps from dealers, learning which vehicle models experienced the problem, and determining if any Nissan or Infiniti models in the United States were affected.
The recall affects 2020–2021 Nissan Armadas that were built October 5, 2019, to April 2, 2020, and 2020-2021 Infiniti QX80 SUVs that were built October 5, 2019, to April 2, 2020, if they have fuel pump module A7040-3ZD0B.
Notices will be mailed July 20, after which dealerships will replace the fuel pump modules.
