Subaru recalled roughly 188,000 vehicles equipped with faulty DENSO fuel pumps in April and DENSO itself recalled more than 2 million fuel pumps the following month. A class action lawsuit alleges that additional vehicles should have been subject to the recall.

According to the lawsuit, DENSO pumps fail prematurely because their impellers may crack and absorb excessive amounts of fuel.
When this occurs, the impellers deform over time, causing the engines to stall.
The lawsuit claims that a faulty fuel pump may cause “the illumination of the check engine light and/or master warning indicators, rough engine running, engine no start and/or vehicle stall while driving at low speed and, in rare instances, a vehicle stall could occur while driving at higher speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.”
