Common Nissan Titan Problems and The California Lemon Law

If your Nissan Titan has recurring problems that won’t go away, it may be considered a lemon.

Under the California Lemon Law, a lemon is a vehicle with recurring problems that will not go away, despite a reasonable number of repair attempts by authorized repair facilities. These problems must negatively impact the use, safety or value of your vehicle.

Many owners and lessees of Nissan Titan vehicles report problems that do just that. Learn more about common problems that 2013–2020 Nissan Titan owners and lessees report in their vehicles. If one of these problems repeatedly appear in your Nissan Titan, you may need to talk to a lemon law attorney about your case.

Fuel System Problems

The illumination of the low pressure fuel sensor light is just one sign among many that there may be an issue with your Nissan Titan’s fuel system. Other signs of fuel system problems include acceleration issues such as hesitation, jerking and lurching. Complaints submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that drivers may hear whistling noises while filling the fuel tanks at a gas station, and, while in the vehicles themselves, they may smell exhaust filling the cabin. Problems with the fuel system may culminate in fuel pump failure or loss of vehicular power.

Drivetrain Problems

The “drivetrain” refers to several parts that transfer power to the wheels, and includes the transmission. Transmission problems reported in NHTSA complaints include hard shifts, lurching, hesitation while accelerating and sudden stops while the owner or lessee is driving the vehicle. Transmission problems could cause damage to the overall drivetrain. Signs of a faulty drivetrain may include fluid leaks and severe vibration issues.

Engine Problems

If your Check Engine Light illuminates on the dashboard, it is time to investigate your Nissan Titan for engine problems. Vehicle jerking, excessive noises and reduced engine power are all problems reported in complaints submitted to NHTSA. Nissan Titan drivers have also claimed that their vehicles have problems with delayed or unexpected acceleration. Any of these issues could culminate in engine failure, which may put the owner or lessee in a financial bind.

Safety System Problems

If your Airbag Warning Light illuminates on your dashboard, you may need to check on your safety systems. Your seat belts and airbags are supposed to protect you in a car crash. When these systems malfunction, your safety is compromised. Nissan Titan drivers have reported several airbag problems. For example, some Titan vehicles have had exploding airbags akin to the infamous Takata components. Other Titan vehicles have had airbags fail to deploy and, puzzlingly, airbags deploying without warning or reason.

Brake Problems

Some Nissan Titan vehicles have been included in a class action lawsuit alleging that their Automatic Emergency Brake (AEB) systems are defective. The AEB systems are supposed to detect obstacles such as vehicles and pedestrians, warn drivers of said obstacles, and, if a driver does not immediately respond, trigger the emergency brakes. However, a class action alleges that AEB systems in several Nissan models, including some Nissan Titan vehicles, detect nonexistent obstacles, give false warnings and brake randomly in unsafe environments. Outside of the class action suit, Nissan Titan drivers have reported grinding noises, premature brake wear and, sometimes, brake failure.
