General Motors will recall roughly 840,000 Chevy and GMC vehicles because these vehicles may experience suspension problems or front seat belt failure.
Vehicles affected by the seat belt recall, all of which have split bench seats, include the following:
• 2019–2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
• 2019–2021 GMC Sierra 1500
• 2020–2021 Silverado 2500
• 2020–2021 Silverado 3500
• 2020–2021 GMC Sierra 2500
• 2020–2021 GMC Sierra 3500
• 2021 Chevrolet Suburban
• 2021 Chevrolet Tahoe
• 2021 GMC Yukon XL
Pickup trucks with bucket seats are not affected by this recall.
General Motors says that the seat belts may not properly restrain drivers and passengers in a crash because the seat belt brackets may not have been properly secured to the seat frame.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified starting February 1, after which dealers will inspect and reassemble the seat belt brackets.
General Motors also issued a recall pertaining to suspension problems. The recall affects 213,000 vehicles.
Vehicles affected by the suspension recall include:
• 2010–2013 Buick Lacrosse
• 2012–2013 Buick Regal
• 2013 Chevrolet Malibu
The rear toe links on these vehicles can rust and fracture because the coating on the links can chip and expose the metal to the elements.
The affected vehicles were primarily sold in the salt-belt states and do not cover every part of the United States.
Owners will be notified of the recall on February 15 and receive a notice about parts availability around March 15. When parts become available, dealers will replace the toe links.
