Honda Attempts to Dismiss Honda Radar Sensing Lawsuit

Honda claims that a class action lawsuit alleging its Honda CR-V and Honda Accord have faulty radar should be dismissed, despite drivers claiming that they were so afraid of the systems that they stopped driving their vehicles.

Honda has attempted to dismiss a lawsuit that alleges the radar sensing systems in 2017–2020 Honda CR-V and 2016–2020 Honda Accord vehicles cause defects that make their owners and lessees afraid to drive. The radar sensing systems in 2017–2020 Honda CR-V and 2016–2020 Honda Accord vehicles include Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow and Lane Keeping Assist.

The lawsuit claims that the millimeter wave radar software causes problems such as random warning messages, sudden speed changes while cruise control is on, and warnings to apply brakes for nonexistent obstacles.

A technical service bulletin reveals that Honda instructed dealerships to update radar software in response to consumer complaints.

However, some drivers claim that Honda dealers may sometimes refuse to repair the faulty vehicles.

Honda based its request for the lawsuit’s dismissal on the grounds that the drivers do not “allege an alternative design” to the Honda Sensing features, and that the drivers don’t allege that the vehicles “failed to meet government standards,” among other claims.
