Quick Facts
- NHTSA Campaign ID: 24V293000

Ford Maverick Tail Light History
Ford’s internal teams first learned of the Ford Maverick tail lamp issue in February 2024, after which one of its teams logged through Ford Maverick vehicles’ Connected Vehicle data and found a high number of Diagnostic Trouble Codes related to rear tail lamps not working. They noticed that while the position light was affected, the brake and signal lights remained fully functional.
From February to April of 2024, the team investigated what conditions set these Diagnostic Trouble Codes and analyzed vehicle data and warranty claims related to the vehicles’ behavior.
As of April 4, 2024, Ford is aware of 11 warranty claims related to the Ford Maverick tail lights issue. The Connected Vehicle data reveals 4,727 VINs with set DTCs potentially related to the tail light issue, with 1,555 vehicles setting left hand and right hand DTCs on a single trip. By April 19, 2024, Ford approved the recall.
Ford planned to notify its dealers starting May 1, 2023. Ford Maverick tail light notices will be sent to owners starting May 20, 2024. Ford Maverick owners should expect to receive them by May 24, 2024.2

Ford Rearview Camera Display History
NHTSA contacted Ford in June 2024 regarding allegations of 2022 Ford Maverick trucks having their rearview camera images freezing while in REVERSE, supplying four Vehicle Owners’ Questionnaires related to the issue.
Ford investigated the issue and discovered that all Maverick pickup trucks with freezing rearview camera images had Connected Touch Radio installed. This CTR system processes live video feed from the rear view camera. Ford uncovered 26 more claims of rearview cameras freezing while in REVERSE, this time on 2022-2024 Maverick trucks with CTR installed.
From July to August 2024, Ford and the CTR supplier stress-tested all CTR software versions to determine which version of the software caused the camera image freezing issue. Earlier versions of the software were found to show memory leaks, and other vulnerabilities within the software were found.
Ford is aware of four warranty claims, 7 vehicle owner questionnaires, 22 complaints and two reports of accidents related to the Maverick frozen rearview camera image issue.4
Is my Ford Maverick part of these recalls? How to Check!
If you own a 2022-2024 Ford Maverick, we recommend that you find out whether your Maverick pickup is part of one or more active recalls. The first step is to locate your 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number, which can be found on your driver’s side doorjamb, the lower driver’s side corner of your windshield, or your vehicle documentation (registration, repair orders, etc.).
Once you locate your 17-digit VIN, you can find out if your Ford Maverick pickup truck is part of any active recalls by:
- Visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Check For Recalls” search tool and typing your VIN into the search bar.
- Going to Ford’s recall search tool and typing your VIN where instructed.
- Calling Ford’s customer service department at 1-866-436-7332, telling the representative your VIN and asking if your vehicle is subject to any open recalls.
If your Ford Maverick is part of any open recalls, we recommend that you schedule a service appointment with your local Ford dealership to get these important safety recall repairs. Repairs offered under a recall are typically compensated by the manufacturer.
