Honda Recalls 206,000 Passports, Pilots for Fire Risk from Fuel Leaks

Honda is recalling nearly 206,000 Honda Passport and Honda Pilot SUVs because they are at risk of fuel leaks, particularly during a crash.

If you own a 2023–2024 Honda Passport or a 2023–2025 Honda Pilot, the fuel leak defect may put you at an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash. The fuel filler neck tube and the fuel filler pipe may separate during a crash and allow fuel to leak out. This is particularly dangerous if fuel leaks occur near an ignition source because the vehicle may catch fire.

We suggest that you keep all recall notices and documents you may receive in the mail and contact Honda customer service to get the recall remedy as soon as possible.

Honda Fuel Leak Recall Information

  • NHTSA ID: 24V900000
  • Honda Recall Number: OKM
  • Recalled Vehicles: 2023–2024 Honda Passport and 2023–2025 Honda Pilot
  • Vehicle Defect: The fuel filler neck tube and the fuel filler pipe may have an incomplete connection. The neck tube and pipe may separate during a crash and allow fuel to leak.
  • Cause of Defect: An out-of-sequence process stopped the fuel neck tube and fuel filler pipe from connecting completely during the installation of the fuel pipe assembly.
  • Safety Risk: If the fuel leak occurs near an ignition source, vehicle occupants may face an increased risk of injuries or vehicle fires.
  • Remedy: An authorized Honda dealer will inspect and properly connect the fuel filler neck tube to the fuel filler pipe.1

Honda has had one warranty claim related to the fuel leak issue, which it received on May 13, 2024. Around the time of the warranty claim, Honda had found six vehicles with an incomplete connection. Honda has improved the fuel pipe assembly sequence and quality inspection processes since October 18, 2024.

Honda plans to notify affected owners around January 6, 2025.2 If you have a 2023–2024 Honda Passport or a 2023–2025 Honda Pilot, look for a recall notice in your mailbox at around this time.

Is my Honda vehicle covered by this fuel leak recall?

If you are covered by the recall, contact Honda customer service to confirm if you can schedule a repair visit with your local Honda dealership.

What are my rights if I cannot get my Honda vehicle repaired?

If your Honda vehicle cannot be repaired for a safety issue within a reasonable number of repair attempts, certain consumer laws in California afford you a few legal options.

The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, otherwise known as California’s Lemon Law, allows owners of new and certified pre-owned vehicles the option to recover significant cash compensation for defective vehicles. Under California’s lemon law, an owner or lessee of a defective vehicle may recover a cash-and-keep settlement (wherein they keep their vehicles), a replacement vehicle, or a near full repurchase of the vehicle, plus other expenses compensated. Attorneys’ fees and costs are also compensated by the manufacturer as part of the final settlement.

If your vehicle has not been repaired sufficiently or on a timely basis under a recall, you may be eligible for lemon law compensation. Repairs performed under recall can still count as a repair attempt for the sake of the lemon law (learn more about how recalls affect lemon law cases).
